On Friday 10th May 2013 Falmouth rowers were invited to celebrate their success at the 24th Isles of Scilly Pilot Gig World Championships 2013. Alice Marston – owner of Miss Peapods and kind sponsor of the Falmouth gig club Junior crews very generously laid on a Champagne reception to congratulate the club’s spectacular results.
The crews raced 125 crews from as far afield as Holland to bring home 1st place Trophies to Falmouth – a remarkable achievement for the dedicated teams of rowers who’ve juggled demanding jobs, families and other big commitments to train for the biggest racing event of the season.
The evening was a chance to share the celebrations with the club’s Junior members who gallantly rowed up the river in the rain from Falmouth Watersports Centre to Miss Peapods Cafe in Penryn coxed by coach Alice Maxted where they were warmed up with large hot chocolates made by Peapods staff Dulcie Curtis. The club would like to say a very big thankyou to Alice Marston for inviting us to Miss Peapods and for all her fantastic support over the past couple of years. Without help from local businesses we would not be able to continue keeping this Cornish tradition alive for everyone to enjoy.
