Club History

Falmouth gig club was formed in 1985, When a handful of enthusiasts started to row the gig ‘Energy’ built by Falmouth Marine School of Engineering. From an initial small membership, more people gradually joined and a second gig ‘Fury’ was built by Ralph Bird in 1992. It was from this point onwards that the clubs women started to dominate the sport and in 1997 the club approached Ralph Bird to craft a third gig ‘Idas’ to add to their fleet. All the clubs boats are covered by a trustee agreement to ensure the boats will always stay in Falmouth.

The club has members of all ages and runs junior rowing, women’s, men’s, veterans and super vets (over 50) so there is something for everyone!
